The Fashion Professorship aims to rethink the cracks in the fashion system and the role that fashion plays – and could potentially play – in relation to urgent social, cultural, environmental and political developments in contemporary society. We envision an alternative and more engaged future of fashion in which we do more justice to fashion’s human dimension. Through research, design and critical thinking, we analyse and develop alternative approaches, systems, vocabularies and strategies. In doing so, we aim to activate the power of fashion to reimagine future bodies, future materials and future makers to contribute to resilient futures and inclusive societies.
The theme of Dutch Design Week 2020 is “The New Intimacy”. The COVID-19 pandemic poses the question in what kind of future we want to live together. What does (physical) distance mean for intimacy and our relationships between the body, space and the objects surrounding them.
ArtEZ educates critical and reflective individuals for the rapidly changing world we live in now to question the preferable future. Research at ArtEZ gives direction to these changes by speculating and exploring alternative futures. During the Dutch Design Week ArtEZ will show some results of education and research programmes in relation to the changing intimate relationships between bodies, objects and spaces.
This year, the ArtEZ Centre of Expertise Future Makers will present their research project: Going Circular, Going Cellulose - questioning material intimacy.
Visit ArtEZ during the Dutch Design Week from the 17th to the 25th of October 2020.
