On January 11, 2023, Daniëlle Bruggeman, Hanka van der Voet and Chet Bugter gave a lecture as part of the ArtEZ Honours Lab track on 'Speculative Futures'.
First, Daniëlle Bruggeman discussed how new materialist thinking and rhizomatic approaches resonate in contemporary fashion practices.
And secondly, Hanka van der Voet and Chet Bugter presented their paper A Fruiting Body of Collective Labour: Working Towards a De-Hierarchised System for Fashion Education (read their paper by clicking here). They discussed the workings of the underground mycelial networks of fungi to explore alternative, non-hierarchical models of artistic collaboration.
Together with the Honours Lab students, we read excepts of:
- Anna Tsing - The Mushroom at the End of the World (2015)
- David Griffiths - Queer Theory for Lichens (2015)
- Merlin Sheldrake - Entangled Life. How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures (2020).
